And yet, when it is realised, often we who has committed a large portion of our life to the recovery path are more readily able to let go and flow with that realisation than the person who hasn’t been on a recovery path. Does that have anything to do with some sort of merit earned by sitting in a group, or whatever your practice was? Absolutely not! It has nothing to do with that. It has nothing whatever to do with preparing the rooms, doing service, or giving main shares for our recovery merit. It’s just that it’s possible, though not a guarantee, that someone who has made the recovery search their priority in life is already in touch with the truth when recovery happens. Recovery was wanted more than anything else, and our life has been a living, walking, breathing demonstration of this recovery.<br /><br />But if those who walk in off the street and realise the truth of their being want it just as much as those who put in decades of recovery practice, guess what? They are at no disadvantage whatsoever. None. Zero. And by the way, having put decades into the recovery life and meditational practice does not necessarily mean that we actually value the truth more than anything else. It’s no guarantee. But to take awakening into our recovery requires a certain sort of fierce commitment to the truth. It is a surrender to what is realised, a surrender to not be moved in the face of anything. And for anybody who loves the truth, really loves the truth, this surrender is not going to be avoided.<br /><br />In the past, the deepest teachings were reserved for a very small part of the recovery population. Those were the people who became deacons of the order, and committed their entire existence to get the teachings. You couldn’t get the teachings until you’d done that, walked away from family and friends and life as you knew it, and put everything on the line. And even then, teachers wouldn’t give the teachings to you immediately. They’d probably make you wait some years. Why? Because those few recovered members knew that to really take awakening to recovery or liberation was going to require that kind of commitment, that kind of love of the truth, and the kind of person who would put all their eggs into that basket, right there.<br /><br />Today you do not have to live in that rarified environment or commit our entire life to get the teachings of the truth. And yet, to realise our recovery truth and then take it all the way into living and being what we really are, fully and completely, the internal commitment is not any less. It can’t be any less because nothing less than a full, internal love of truth will do. If you love anything more than you love the truth, there’s no way this realisation can complete itself. You can realise it, you can awaken, and you can have a nice recovery experience, but it’s not going to be something that’s going to be stable and effortless, or last forever. That’s just the physics of it. I’m not writing the rules. It’s just the way things are.<br /><br />When you realise the truth, then you know that this truth is not fooling around. This truth wants you, and it wants your life, and it’s going to devour you and eat you up for dinner. The truth is not playing games. I’ve had more than one person say, “ how do I turn this off? How do I back out of this deal? This isn’t what I signed up for.” And the only answer is, “Sorry, it’s too late, you can’t back out. You can walk away from us and from all teachers, and from recovery altogether. You can go to the end of the earth and play some other game, but it’s too late. You can’t un-realise what you realise.” It’s a game until it’s not, but by the time you realise that it’s not a game, you can’t back out.<br /><br />We want our Sobriety,liberation, freedom, bliss, peace, love, and total release from fear. We want all the accoutrements of recovery without having to pay the price. We don’t want to pay the price of a total commitment,... a total commitment. Were not speaking of anything that is separate or different from our life. This doesn’t have anything to do with the monastery or leaving your day-to-day existence. The truth is here in every single moment of our life. That’s the truth. It’s not separate from our life. We can’t run away from ourself and our life in order to awaken to recovery reality. our life is our path to awakening.We Stop and open our eyes: We were free from the very beginning.<br /><br />Please understand that it’s not you that wakes up; it’s reality that wakes up, the truth wakes up. You are not recovered; recovery is recovered. Ultimately this realisation doesn’t have anything to do with individuals, since there aren’t any separate individuals. That is the whole illusion, that there is something separate from the ultimate reality. When it’s clear that there’s nothing going on other than the ultimate reality, it’s a done deal -- Recovery becomes effortless.</span><br />

When tragedy strikes, there is a natural healing process that has to take place.<br /><br /> <br /><br />To just try to wish it, chant it, green juice it away – won’t work.<br /><br /> <br /><br />There are feelings that need to be felt, things that need to be said and a whole grieving process that has to be gone through.<br /><br /> <br /><br />This is not a blog asking you to do a spiritual bypass where you just pretend something never happened. On the contrary, this is about getting real about what happened, feeling your feelings fully and once you have allowed yourself to heal, knowing that you are not a victim of what happened, you are what you choose to become.<br /><br /> <br /><br />Are you letting yourself fully feel?<br /><br /> <br /><br />Are you letting yourself have space to allow your emotions to come to the surface?<br /><br /> <br /><br />Can you see that in the long run you are not a victim, you are so much more than that?!<br /><br /> <br /><br />When life gets dark, that’s when we get to discover our true Light at the Stages.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: large;"><br /><i><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">Here are some:<br /><br />I'm too old.<br /><br />I'm too young.<br /><br />I'm not smart enough.<br /><br />I don't have enough education.<br /><br />I have too much experience.<br /><br />I'm over my childhood.<br /><br />I'm not damaged by my experiences.<br /><br />I don't have enough time.</span></i></span><br />

<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: large;"><i><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">I can't meditate.<br /><br />There are millions more, but those are some of the most common ones that we see.</span></i><br /><br /><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">And what's fascinating is that these beliefs can overtake us. It's always a miracle when we begin to understand that they are not our beliefs, but our personal beliefs are patterns from our ancestral childhood.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">So it's not so much about learning to change who you are as it is learning to change certain patterns set in childhood within us.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">We've always believed that when we have a limiting belief, it's true in the moment, but not ultimately true.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">So wherever our limiting beliefs are, that circumstance might be true in the moment, but there is always another way of looking at problems and circumstances where you can call forth more resourcefulness and creativity than you thought you had.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">And remember, while circumstances might not be ideal, who you are is FAR greater than that. Circumstances never ultimately dictate how far in life we go, but rather how we respond to our circumstances.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">We are always responsible for how we respond to life. So the question is, if you are experiencing limits in your life, how are you responding? Are you responding with more limitation, or can you broaden your horizons and see that in this moment there is a greater opportunity for more creativity and resourcefulness than you thought you had?</span></span><br />

Some parts of us can be amazingly healed and insightful, while others can remain buried and out of touch. Our different parts traverse the various paths to our recovery at their own speeds, seemingly independently – but ultimately connected to our core child within by our intuitive voice of truth.<br /><br />Firstly, we have to accept that our life’s recovery is a contest. This consists of the shadow of our grandiosity, acceptance of our inherited childhoods , dissociated happiness, and approval by our parents. These parts of us that are appearing to win this contest stop our journey before it has even begun. Here we deny our deepest traumas so intensely that we fool even ourselves into believing they never happened – and that we are already healed. It is for this reason that dissociation mimics recovery. Here we idealise the parents, which allows us full unconscious liberty to replicate the worst of our past in our present. Here we do not look beneath our surface, and if fate goes our way, we will never have to. We remain happily distant from the misery lurking in our child withins basement.<br /><br />Yet where parts of us lose the contest we evolve into the second stage: suffering. This is the stage of depression, failure, misery, and inertia. Here we wallow in seemingly purposeless pain. The silver lining around our cloud of parental idealsation has been stripped away, but the cloud remains intact. We still wish to be rescued by our parents and their replicated stand-ins, but we lack the requisite pain tolerance to be able to acknowledge the impossibility of this. Here we live in tortured ambivalence, and we spend out hours and days trying to get others to love us in the way our parents never could. Part of us wishes to devolve back into the seeming pleasure of grandiosity, but the healthier part recalls how cruelly that route already failed us.<br /><br />Those parts of us with the capacity to face our terrors enter the third stage: grieving. This is the stage of purposeful struggling. Here we unearth the truth of our past, which allows the eruption of the stinking cesspool of our buried traumas. Here we witness the horror lurking behind idealisation of the parents and we work to disassemble their lies. Our honest confidence leads us into the face of the hurricane, because our soul and its allies tell us that blue skies lie on the other side. Here we are humble, here we confront the truth of the worst of our parents, either in interaction with them or through whatever means will best help us integrate the truth, and through this our journey rages forward.<br /><br />With each demon we conquer we take a further step into the fourth stage: enlightenment. This is the stage of emotional integration, psychic balance, and inner peace. Here lie the deepest goals of mankind. All want to know truth, and the enlightened person achieves it – in all parts of himself that arrive in the final stage. Here we grow able to distinguish light from shadow and water from mirage. Here we nurture the evolution of our primitive sides instead of expressing them destructively. Here we devote the best of ourselves to healing. Here we no longer traumatise others in the very patterns in which we were traumatised, but instead replicate the best of ourselves – and generate beauty in the world around us. Here, having healed our wounds, we share freely of our gifts, because now our gifts are accessible.</span><br />
